Linking to SDCC Library e-Resources

How to create links to SDCC Library e-resources that you can paste into Canvas, emails, web sites and more!

Persistent Linking Instructions for EBSCO Databases & e-Books

Follow these steps to create persistent links to materials (articles or ebooks) in any EBSCO database:

These instructions have been streamlined since the EBSCO user interface changed on August 1, 2025:

Start at the A-Z Databases page:

  1. Go into any EBSCO database and do a search.
  2. Find an article or e-book you want.
  3. In the right-hand corner of the item you choose, click the three vertical dots (tooltip: Tools menu) to find the Share dropdown item
  4. Click on Share. A popup box will open with two tabs: Share and Email.
  5. Under the Share tab is a link for Create Link; click on that link to create a URL you can copy to share. The Library's remote access proxy prefix is already included. Make sure you copy the whole URL in order to share it.

Then go to your Canvas shell:

  • Within a text editor box, paste in the URL as a persistent link, OR
  • Within a Module, create a new External Link and paste in the persistent link as the URL. Make sure to check the box for the Load in a new tab option. Why?

How to link to a chapter:

  • Select a chapter from the table of contents in the right margin of the screen,
  • Click the Share arrow at the top of the screen to generate a persistent link,
  • Copy the URL from the Share tab in the popup box. This will take the reader to the page within the book that you are on when you make the link; note that this works best in the PDF version. The EPUB version has "pages" that may contain the text of the entire chapter, so the link may take the user to the start of the chapter heading.
  • See more detailed instructions at EBSCO Connect.
