Abstract

RYAN POTFAY, STUDENT

Ryan Potfay was born in 1991 in Port Jefferson, New York. His father, Paul, fled Czechoslovakia in 1980 and joined an older brother in the United States. Ryan’s mother, Judy, was born and raised in Long Island. Ryan enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2008, joining his older brother in military service. With an honorable discharge in 2013 and the G.I Bill, Ryan started his college career at City College. Ryan discusses his paternal family history, the impact of the 9/11 attacks on the US, his tour of duty in Afghanistan, and the transition from military service to civilian life.
