What is a zine?

A zine is a homemade publication created using readily available materials. They are platforms for expressions of narratives from personal, political, satirical, and more. However, this is a loose definition, and a zine can be whatever you want it to be! It can be a comic filled with original illustrations, an instruction manual, a collage used to tell a story, and more!

Here are some characteristics often attributed to zines:

  • self-published
  • DIY
  • community-oriented
  • low-budget
  • no barrier to entry
