Follow these steps to create persistent links to materials in the CQ Researcher database or the CQ Encyclopedia of American Government database:
Start at the A-Z Databases page:
- Go to the CQ Researcher database. (The following procedure also works for the CQ Encyclopedia of American Government)
- Search for a topic and find an article you like.
- Click on a title to bring up the record.
- Scroll down to the bottom of document to find the Document URL.
- Copy the URL.
- Create a new persistent link by opening Notepad (or something similar) and pasting the Document URL into it, then add the remote access prefix (https://libraryaccess.sdcity.edu/login?url=) to the beginning of the Document URL (see example below).
Then go to your Canvas shell:
- Within a text editor box, paste in the new persistent link, OR
- Within a Module, create a new External Link and paste in the new persistent link as the URL. Make sure to check the box for the Load in a new tab option. Why?
