MILENKO KARANOVICH, FACULTY

Dr. Milenko “Mike” Karanovich was born in Yugoslavia in 1940 and grew-up in a small farm with his mother and brother. Education was a top priority for his family and he his brother walked many miles each day to attend school. He attended the University of Zagreb where he obtained his bachelor's degree. He was a professor in Yugoslavia before deciding to come to America and continue his education.

Dr. Karanovich immigrated to Wisconsin and completed both his M.A. and Ph.D. in history at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the 1970s. He has over 30 years of teaching experience and currently teaches World History and Western Civilization courses. His essay discusses growing up during World War II, immigrating to the US during the Cold War, and his experience with FBI surveillance.
